Action mechanism
After MTA is placed in the tooth, body fluids infiltrate the paste, causing it to set. During this process, calcium and hydroxide ions are released from the MTA, promoting the formation of hydroxyapatite (HA) on the surface of the MTA. When HA coats the surface, it conceals the underlying MTA to minimize foreign body reactions and supports the healing responses of the pulp or periapical tissue.
High radiopacity
Contains tantalum oxide as a radiopaque agent. Tantalum oxide has a higher atomic number, providing greater radiopacity than the more commonly used zirconium oxide.
